Ehime University School of Medicine was established in 1973 under the “One school of medicine for each prefecture” government policy. Subsequently, we opened a hospital in 1976, our Graduate School of Medicine in 1979, and the Faculty of Nursing in 1994. About a half of our graduates remain in Ehime Prefecture to support medical activities in the community, and many graduates are teaching at our school to foster future medical professionals, and also playing leading roles in clinical and medical elds throughout the country. In terms of education, we endeavor to foster the medical person who will embody our basic principle “Give back to the patients what has been learned from the patients”. In addition, to practice the basic principles of Ehime University; “Student-centered, prominent in the region, serving as a link to the world”, we oer diversity-friendly medical education. Not only community medicine training to understand regional medicine, to train the medical person with a global perception, we also promote clinical clerkships abroad in cooperation with our partner universities such as Kangwon University (Korea), Dalian Medical University (China), China Medical University (China) and Kaohsiung Medical University (Taiwan) . For medical students who are research-oriented, we oer “Medical science research” classes from the rst year to the fourth year which enables students to conduct their research in the desired laboratory. Students who meet the criteria in “Medical science research” can also take graduate lectures as a credited auditor. With regard to research, the Graduate School of Medicine, the Proteo-science Center and the Academic Support Center are collaborating to conduct advanced yet unique research in the elds of cancer, the immune system, allergies, infectious diseases, and motor disorder and aging. In order to link the leading-edge research results obtained here to the development of new treatments, we have established a Translational Research Center in our hospital to promote the “bridge research”. In addition, with the cooperation of people in Ehime Prefecture, we are also focusing on “cohort research” through observational research that investigates the relationship between specic factors and disease occurrence. Furthermore, in order to stimulate research activities in the future, we are conducting postgraduate education in which basic medicine and clinical medicine are linked. As for regional contribution, we have established satellite centers in various locations in Ehime Prefecture, and by providing medical treatment that meets the needs of the region, we are contributing to the improvement of regional medicine in Ehime Prefecture. Furthermore, in cooperation with medical institutions throughout the prefecture, we actively promote and support the development of human resources who can contribute to future regional medical and career development. Also, in cooperation with Toon City and local companies, we are carrying out the “Toon Health and Medical Care Project” aimed at creating a medical equipment industry and an original healthcare program such as health tourism, to revitalize the region. Thus, the Ehime University School of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine are steadily developing. We aim to be a school reaching out to the world while valuing our local roots. We will produce medical personnel who can respond exibly to our rapidly changing society through self-improvement. We sincerely appreciate your continued support. Thank you.
